Started and run by eye surgeons

Sarvdrishti Eye Hospital was started in 2018 by eye surgeons who trained at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. It is still run by doctors: its three directors are eye surgeons who see patients at our branches.

Their aim was eye care of the standard they trained in, for the whole population of Bihar, without a long journey to reach it. Today there are branches in Patna, Gaya and Hajipur. Between them they look after every part of the eye, from cataract and glaucoma to the retina, the cornea, children's eyes and the eyelids, with a scientific, evidence based approach.

Where our doctors trained

Care for every part of the eye

From a child's first eye check to retina surgery. Each area has its own doctors, tests and equipment.

  • Cataract

Phaco surgery through a very small cut, usually without stitches. Lens choices include trifocal and EDOF lenses, for people who want to depend less on glasses.

  • Retina

Laser and injections for diabetic eye disease, surgery through tiny openings for a detached retina, and eye screening for babies born early.

  • Glaucoma

Eye pressure and side vision checks, eye drops, laser, and glaucoma surgery (trabeculectomy) when drops are not enough.

  • Cornea

Infections, ulcers, keratoconus and injuries of the clear front window of the eye, up to corneal transplant.

  • Children's eyes

Eye checks for children, glasses, patching for a lazy eye, and squint surgery when it is needed.

  • ICL and contact lenses

ICL, a thin lens placed inside the eye for high power. Contact lenses too, including special lenses for keratoconus.

  • Eyelids and around the eye

Droopy eyelids, eyelid surgery, scars, lumps and tumours around the eye, and tear duct problems. This is called oculoplasty.

  • Eye injuries

An ocular trauma unit for injuries to the eye. After an injury, call the nearest branch straight away.

The machines behind your check-up

What each of the main machines does, in plain words.

  • OCT scan (Topcon)

    Retina, glaucoma and cornea

Takes a cross-section picture of the retina, the eye's nerve or the cornea in a few seconds, without touching the eye.

  • Retinal angiography (Zeiss)

    Retina

A dye given into a vein in the arm lights up the blood vessels of the retina in photos, to show leaks and blockages.

  • Humphrey visual field test

    Glaucoma

Maps the side vision of each eye. Its Glaucoma Progression Analysis compares every test with the ones before, to show whether glaucoma is getting worse.

  • Retina surgery system (Alcon Constellation)

    Retina surgery

For operations on the retina and the gel that fills the eye, through openings small enough to often need no stitches.

  • 532 nm green laser

    Retina

Seals leaking blood vessels and weak spots in the retina, for example in diabetic eye disease.

  • YAG laser

    Cataract and glaucoma

Clears the haze that can form behind a lens implant after cataract surgery, and makes a tiny opening in the iris to prevent one type of glaucoma. No cut is needed.

Some tests and operations are done at one branch only. When you book, the branch will tell you where yours takes place.

One hospital, three branches

In Gaya and Hajipur the hospital goes by a local name. All three branches are part of Sarvdrishti Eye Hospital, and all three accept the Ayushman card.
