About Dr. Kumar Vivek
Dr. Kumar Vivek is a retina surgeon and one of the directors of Sarvdrishti. He studied medicine at Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata, then did his MD in ophthalmology at Dr. R.P. Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi. He stayed on for three years as a senior resident, training in retina surgery.
Most of his work is on the retina, the thin layer at the back of the eye that senses light. He operates through very small openings (23G, 25G and 27G) that do not need stitches. He also screens and treats babies born early for ROP, and looks after patients whose retina has been affected by diabetes or high blood pressure. He has published in peer reviewed journals.
