The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped front surface of the eye that covers the iris, pupil, and anterior chamber. It acts like a natural window of the eye and plays an important role in focusing light onto the retina for clear vision.
At Sarvdrishti Eye Hospital, our specialists provide advanced diagnosis and treatment for corneal disorders, ensuring healthy and clear vision.

Vision is the ability to perceive and interpret the surrounding world through the eyes. It is a complex process involving the eyes, optic nerves, and the brain. Regular vision screening is crucial for maintaining eye health and detecting potential issues early on. Screening methods include visual acuity tests, which measure the sharpness of vision, and eye examinations that evaluate eye alignment, eye movements, and overall eye health.
Other screening tools may involve assessing color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision. These screenings help identify refractive errors, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, as well as more serious conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration, facilitating timely intervention and appropriate vision correction measures.

Contact Lenses . For patients with corneal conditions such as keratoconus or certain corneal dystrophies, ophthalmologists often recommend specially designed contact lenses. These lenses are carefully fitted to the unique shape and curvature of the patient’s cornea, helping to correct vision and provide clearer, more comfortable sight. The choice of lens type—rigid gas permeable, hybrid, or scleral—depends on the severity and progression of the condition, allowing the lens to support the cornea while improving visual clarity and daily functioning.

Transplants. In cases of severe corneal disease, ophthalmologists may recommend a corneal transplant to restore vision and improve eye health. During this procedure, the damaged or diseased cornea is carefully removed and replaced with healthy donor tissue. Corneal transplants can effectively treat a variety of conditions, including iridocorneal endothelial syndrome, keratoconus, lattice dystrophy, and other corneal disorders. By replacing the affected cornea, this surgery helps improve clarity, reduce scarring, and restore proper visual function, offering patients a chance for significantly better sight and quality of life.

Crosslinking . For patients with keratoconus, a relatively recent and highly effective treatment is corneal crosslinking. During this procedure, an ophthalmologist uses ultraviolet (UV) light in combination with a photosensitizing solution to strengthen and stabilize the corneal tissue. By increasing the structural integrity of the cornea, crosslinking helps slow or halt the progression of keratoconus, preventing further thinning or bulging and reducing the risk of severe vision loss. This minimally invasive procedure has become an important option for preserving long-term corneal health and maintaining clearer vision.

Laser Therapy. It’s possible to treat many infections and dystrophies with a computer-controlled excimer laser. In some situations, an ophthalmologist can use phototherapeutic keratectomy as a substitute for transplantation. The laser destroys diseased or irregular tissue and allows the body to replace it. Patients often recover quickly and enjoy rapid improvements in their vision. Laser therapy works best when only the cornea’s surface layer needs repair.
